Sid Haig’s a werewolf

Captain Spaulding the director? Seems that way.

According to the boys at Dread Central, Sid Haig (HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES, THE DEVIL’S REJECTS) has signed on to direct the live-action film adaptation of Mitch Hyman’s popular comic book, Bubba The Redneck Werewolf. If that wasn’t enough, Sid will be doing double duty, and playing the lead furbag himself!

I know you’re asking, ‘What the heck is Bubba the Redneck Werewolf?’, and I’m glad you asked! The comic revolves around the hilarious misadventures of a small town dog catcher named Bubba Beauregard Blanche, who resides in a sleepy little burg in Cracker County, Florida. Unfortunately Bubba, who isn’t the sharpest knife in the drawer, happens upon a seemingly defenseless poodle mix that escaped from the local drug lab. The little doggie takes a bite out of our hero, quite literally, and Bubba contracts a serious case of lycanthropy.

Back to Sid, who was quoted as being extremely happy and excited to be a part of the project, is best buds with the comic’s creator. “The source material – the comic Bubba the Redneck Werewolf – makes the project even more interesting because of the worldwide built-in fanbase the book has.

To be able to work with my good friend Mitch Hyman, the creator of Bubba, and Bill Whitacre – who is not only a technical, but artistic powerhouse – makes me feel extremely safe in that I can allow my creative juices to flow.

Beyond that, we have Barry Anderson creating the Bubba appliances I will be wearing, which will be amazing because you will be able to identify my features through the Bubba makeup. This is something that I have wanted for a very long time, and to now be able to express myself as a feature film director is something that, for a very long time, I’ve felt I would never acheive. Now I feel that I am blessed.”

If this news wasn’t enough, the official site for the film is up and running (albeit just the front page), so keep an eye on it for updates. To find out more on the comic itself, click here. BUBBA THE REDNECK WEREWOLF is tentatively set for a fall 2006 release.
