Spike Lee’s Oldboy remake finds its lead: Josh Brolin

Last Updated on July 23, 2021

I must say, even though I’m still quite firmly against remaking OLDBOY, it’s gotten more and more interesting. First Spike Lee came on board as the director, and now we have our Oh Dae Su (although he’ll be named “Joe” in the remake), and it’s not a bad choice at all.

Josh Brolin is your new vengeance-seeking hero, according to Deadline.com. The actor recently shot MEN IN BLACK III and is set to star in THE GANGSTER SQUAD for Ruben Fleischer. Brolin’s name came up last month as a possibility, so it’s not completely shocking news, but it’s a confirmed thing as of now.

Mandate Pictures and Vertigo Entertainment are producing OLDBOY, which commences filming in March. Mark Protosevich (THOR) wrote the screenplay, although it might be safe to assume that Spike will give it his own pass.

As far as remakes go, this one has some serious potential.
