Stephen King says The Dark Tower TV series will be a complete reboot

As I've mentioned in a few other articles, Stephen King's THE DARK TOWER was one of this year's films I was most looking forward to... and then the reviews and word-of-mouth started to trickle out. I'm still going to check out the flick once it hits this Halloween, but by then my expectations will be in check.

That said, Stephen King, himself was recently speaking with Vulture and let drop a few reasons why he thinks the feature film adaptation of his massive novel series didn't work out so well. And that the planned upcoming TV series will be a complete reboot of the source novels.

Stephen King on THE DARK TOWER:

The major challenge was to do a film based on a series of books that’s really long, about 3,000 pages. The other part of it was the decision to do a PG-13 feature adaptation of books that are extremely violent and deal with violent behavior in a fairly graphic way. That was something that had to be overcome, although I’ve gotta say, I thought [screenwriter] Akiva Goldsman did a terrific job in taking a central part of the book and turning it into what I thought was a pretty good movie.

King on THE DARK TOWER TV series:

The TV series they’re developing now … we’ll see what happens with that. It would be like a complete reboot, so we’ll just have to see.

THE DARK TOWER synopsis:

Based on the best-selling book series by highly-acclaimed author Stephen King. The last Gunslinger, Roland (Idris Elba), has been locked in an eternal battle with the Man in Black (Matthew McConaughey), determined to prevent him from toppling the Dark Tower, which holds the universe together. With the fate of the worlds at stake, good and evil will collide in the epic battle as only Roland can defend the Tower from the Man in Black.

THE DARK TOWER is directed by Nikolaj Arcel and stars Idris Elba, Matthew McConaughey, Tom Taylor, Fran Kranz, Jackie Earle Haley, Katheryn Winnick, and Abbey Lee.

THE DARK TOWER debuts on Digital Oct. 17th, and then on 4K, Blu-ray & DVD Oct. 31st.

Extra Tidbit: A complete reboot is fine... as long as they keep Idris Elba.
