Suspiria remake will be cold, evil & dark plus possible 2017 release date

Luca Guadagnino’s remake of Dario Argento’s SUSPIRIA is already in post-production and could be ready to premiere this year!

We told you guys back in February that the remake had wrapped production. But then we brought you pics of Tilda Swinton on set filming. Hurm… Turns out shooting resumed in March because Guadagnino took most of January off to focus on his film CALL ME BY MY NAME premiering at Sundance. But now, production is OFFICIALLY wrapped, and Luca Guadagnino is hitting post-production hard.

Another interesting bit to note is, while at Sundance this past year, the director talked to Variety about the film’s color palette. Now news on a film’s color palette wouldn’t really be news – if we were talking about any other film besides Argento’s candy-colored nightmare SUSPIRIA. But Guadagnino teased his approach to the material will be much different.

It’s a film about guilt and motherhood. It has no primary colors in its color palette, unlike the original. It will be cold, evil and really dark.

Makes sense to me. Back when David Gordon Green was set to helm the remake, I remember telling my buddies that if someone were to remake Argento’s SUSPIRIA, the only way to do it would be to go in the opposite direction of Argento color-wise. How can you compete with that film on f*cking color?!

No, the only way to do it would be to approach it like BLACK SWAN and make it hand-held, grey, and really play up the fear of witches in the shadows plotting your downfall. Seems like the right approach to me… other than, you know, NOT remaking the film in the first place. That would be a solid approach as well.

SUSPIRIA synopsis:

The story centers around an American ballet dancer attending a prestigious academy in Europe, only to discover a series of murders that are connected to a dark supernatural presence.

SUSPIRIA stars Tilda Swinton, Dakota Johnson, Chloe Grace-Moretz and Mia Goth. Amazon has acquired international distribution rights to the movie, and a fall 2017 release is likely.
