True Detective S3 trailer promises return to form for struggling series

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

The first season of HBO's TRUE DETECTIVE is one of the very best seasons to ever hit TV. The second, not so much… But all the same, all of us here at AITH are really looking forward to the upcoming third season which stars Mahershala Ali and Stephen Dorff. TRUE DETECTIVE season 3 arrives on HBO come January 13, 2019, and today we have the full trailer for the new season for you to check out.

It looks like a true return to form for the struggling series – or maybe I'm just being optimistic. Oh, well. Until we get a season that functions as a direct sequel to Cary Fukunaga's first season with the return of Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, I'll take what I can get. And this third season, while not TRUE DETECTIVE SEASON ONE PART 2, it will do. For now.

Check out the trailer below and then let us know if you're excited for this upcoming third season, which follows:

Partner detectives investigating a macabre crime involving two missing children in the heart of the Ozarks, Arkansas. The story spans three decades.

Jeremy Saulnier (GREEN ROOM, BLUE RUIN) will direct the first two episodes, while Daniel Sackheim (THE GLASS HOUSE, THE WALKING DEAD) helms the remaining six with series creator/executive producer Nic Pizzolatto (his directorial debut). Meanwhile, Scott Stephens, Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, Cary Joji Fukunaga, Steve Golin, Bard Dorros, and Richard Brown join Pizzolatto as executive producers.

This third season co-stars Carmen Ejogo (SELMA, IT COMES AT NIGHT), Mamie Gummer (THE WARD, SIDE EFFECTS), and Scoot McNairy (ARGO, MONSTERS). TRUE DETECTIVE Season 3 will make its HBO debut on January 13, 2019. Until then you can always head on over to Amazon and snag a copy of the stellar first season starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson on Blu-ray RIGHT HERE.
