Yoshimitsu Banno to turn Gamera into an environmentalist! Will shoot in 3D?

Last Updated on July 23, 2021

It looks like GODZILLA isn’t the only behemoth ravaging the earth. A japanese production company has released some (a lot) of tidbits regarding a new monster movie in the works: GAMERA. Yoshimitsu Banno will be directing the new monster feature aimed for Japanese screens.

If you’re a movie buff then you know who the “bowser looking” creature is. GAMERA is going to get a new feature film entitled GAMERA 3D! So…you’ve probably already guessed it. It’ll be in 3D. It also looks like GAMERA 3D will be take a different turn to fit certain ideologies. The producers at Kadokawa Pictures Inc. want the them to be focused with environmental issues as well as educating children about environmental health. Think of it as “Gamera goes green!”

Here are some key sales points that Kodakawa Pictures are shooting for. It’s a little rough on the language due to translation but you’ll get the gist:

1) Gamera Roars! Gamera Fights! In IMAX 3-D screen. Overwhelming power!!

2) Gamera, a friend of children defeats a pollution monster named “Gaira” to protect Earth from the crisis of the environmental problem.

3) Science fiction fantasy in which a new monster character “Gaira” and Son Gokuu (Son Goku) appears.

4) Development of cutting edge technology of SFX utilizing newly developed 4K 3-D super high visioncamera.

5) A new movie business will be developed to distribute with the trend of the spread of 3-D projectiontheaters in the world.

So there you have it. Gamera vs. a villain ripped off of Fern Gully. Check out the pic below to get a taste of what the villain will look like in the film.

Normally, I would say that details are minimal right now but in this case it’s quite the opposite. There’s so much information that you’ll have to visit the site to get a handle on it all. Story elements, character points and even their sales pitch for more funding is included. Check it out right here and strike back us down below. Good idea, bad idea?

While this might fare well in the far east, I’m not too sure it’ll be an instant hit over here. Let’s take a look at our past environmentalist-friendly flicks and you’ll get the overall picture. Regardless, we’ve got our own monster movie to hang on to for the next few years and they’ve got…Gamera.

It’s a chick hugging a tree…somewhat.
