I'm kind of addicted to podcasts. There are several I listen to on a weekly basis, a high number that I've reached after having to cut back on the amount of podcasts I was listening to because things were getting out of hand. In a way, it's one of the easiest forms of entertainment to consume. When you don't have time to read and can't concentrate on a screen to watch a movie, you can put on a podcast and listen while multi-tasking. Although I still have to explain to people just what a podcast is (I go with "it's like a radio show on the internet"), the medium is becoming more and more popular, and more often you see podcasts as the foundations of entertainers' careers.
The latest podcast success story is Aaron Mahnke's. Mahnke launched the podcast Lore in March of 2015, using it to
trace the cultural origins of legendary horror characters and myths such as zombies, vampires, and werewolves, based on eyewitness accounts, documented stories and historical events.
Thirteen months later, Mahnke has signed a deal with Propagate Content and Valhalla Entertainment to turn the podcast into an hour-long horror anthology television series. Like the 'cast, the show will dig into the histories of horror creatures, doing so through a combination of narration, historical mixed media, and cinematically-shot scripted scenes.
The Lore television series will be executive produced by Mahnke, Gale Anne Hurd, Ben Silverman, Howard T. Owens, and Brett-Patrick Jenkins.
I've never listened to an episode of Lore, but it sounds like it's a podcast that I need to add to my playlist.
