Hostel no more?

Professional eyeball-burner and skin-peeler Eli Roth is hanging up his HOSTEL blowtorch after the second chapter is released June 8.

“There are no more ‘Hostels’,” he said to MTV.com. “There is ‘Hostel’ and ‘Hostel 2’ and that’s it. It’s like ‘Kill Bill Volume 1’ and ‘Kill Bill Volume 2.’”

“I hate a lame third sequel, and I don’t want there to be one,” Roth said. “I wish ‘Beyond Thunderdome’ didn’t exist; I wish there was just ‘Mad Max’ and ‘The Road Warrior.’ I really wasn’t crazy about ‘Spider-Man 3.’ I wanted it after ‘Spider-Man 1’ and ‘Spider-Man 2,’ but with ‘Spider-Man 3’ I was really disappointed when I saw that film; that will never happen with ‘Hostel.’”

Now it remains to be seen if the suits at Lion’s Gate give two flying f*cks about Roth’s proclamation. Wouldn’t be very difficult for them to whip up a HOSTEL 3: TOKYO DRIFT for either theaters or, more likely, DVD.

In a separate MTV blog, Roth talks about his reaction to the just-completed HOSTEL 2 final cut: I finally got to hear the movie as it’s going to sound in a theater, and it sounds amazing. You guys are going to love it. I feel it’s by far the best film I’ve ever made, and will even win over my most die hard internet message board haters, of which I have heard there are a couple… ahem… But the fans are going to love it. And we can all thank the MPAA for helping keep the film scary. And bloody. My God is it bloody…

Don’t doubt it, Eli. But does it feature a line of dialogue as memorable and poignant as “Because squirrels are gay?”
