Kim Jee-woon’s action romp THE LAST STAND is building itself quite the cast, isn’t it? First you get ‘The Govenator’ himself Arnold Schwarzenegger then you follow that up with several other names including the likes of Forest Whitaker and Johnny Knoxville. Well you can add one more to this one.
According to Variety hottie Genesis Rodriguez is the latest name to join THE LAST STAND. While Rodriguez doesn’t have a whole lot of credits to her name, personally I’m loving this casting. Maybe it’s because the actress is drop dead gorgeous? Either way this is A-Ok in my book!
Rodriguez will play an FBI agent who’s partnered with Eduardo Noriega’s FBI agent character. Here’s the rundown:
Schwarzenegger stars as Sheriff Owens, a man who has resigned himself to a life of fighting what little crime takes place in sleepy border town Sommerton Junction after leaving his LAPD post following a bungled operation that left him wracked with failure and defeat after his partner was crippled. After a spectacular escape from an FBI prisoner convoy, the most notorious, wanted drug kingpin in the hemisphere is hurtling toward the border at 200 mph in a specially outfitted car with a hostage and a fierce army of gang members. He is headed, it turns out, straight for Summerton Junction, where the whole of the U.S. law enforcement will have their last opportunity to make a stand and intercept him before he slips across the border forever. At first reluctant to become involved, and then counted out because of the perceived ineptitude of his small town force, Owens ultimately accepts responsibility for one of the most daring face offs in cinema history.
Along with Rodriguez, Schwarzenegger, Whitaker, Knoxville and Noriega the film will also star Zach Gilford, Rodrigo Santoro, Peter Stormare, Jaimie Alexander, Luis Guzman and Harry Dead Stanton. THE LAST STAND is filming in Nevada and New Mexico as we speak with a January 17, 2013 release date already tapped so expect a lot more updates in the coming months.
