House of Re-Animator on MoH?

Lately there’s been lots of horror sequel/remake/reimagining news and rumblings, from PHANTASM to those highly-suspect NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET prequel rumors. The trend continues in an interesting way today, where we get an update on the long talked about HOUSE OF RE-ANIMATOR. You’ll recall that director Stuart Gordon and Jeffrey Combs were planning on this fourth entry taking place inside the White House, with kooky Dr. Herbert West coming in to rejigger the dead prez, to be played, supposedly, by William H. Macy. Hilarious bumbling and throat-munching was to ensue (as well as, you’d have to assume, a healthy dose of political commentary).

Shortly after we were all delighted by this announcement, the project seemed to go away, and more recently, we heard tell it had basically fallen apart. Now Dread Central revives the corpse with a telling interview with Barbara Crampton, she of the original RE-ANIMATOR. According to her, HOUSE might find life as an episode of MASTERS OF HORROR, the little anthology that could.

This sounds like a much more viable concept for the title, contingent on MASTERS actually getting a third season: Funding would be in place, a shorter schedule would probably free up an actor like Macy (who’s rollin’ in that WILD HOGS money), and MoH has previously tackled political subject matter subversively (see Joe Dante’s HOMECOMING and John Carpenter’s PRO-LIFE). I shall eagerly wait for Gordon and/or Combs to confirm this neat little rumor, as well as for Mick Garris to promise us a third MoH season, one that will NOT be as maddeningly uneven as the previous two were.

Oh this scene is gonna get so much weirder…
