Blood and fire will boil when House of the Dragon returns to Max in the summer of 2024. The streaming network is ready to keep rabid fans at bay by debuting two House of the Dragon Season 2 character posters featuring Emma D’Arcy’s Rhaenyra Targaryen and Olivia Cooke’s Alicent Hightower. The new promo art is making the rounds one day before the first trailer for the show’s sophomore season lands at CCXP, a fan convention in Brazil.

After a significant death in House of the Dragon Season 1, Rhaenyra and Alicent are ready to go to war, trading “blood for blood” and burning oppressors where they stand. The Game of Thrones spin-off is set hundreds of years before the original series. It is based upon George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, a Targaryen history book that chronicles the history of House Targaryen, starting with “Aegon the Conqueror, creator of the Iron Throne, and [going on] to recount the generations of Targaryens who fought to hold the throne, all the way up to the civil war, known as the Dance of the Dragons, that nearly tore their dynasty apart.”

Matt Smith, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Sonoya Mizuno, Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Phia Saban, Jefferson Hall, Matthew Needham. Abubakar Salim, Gayle Rankin, Freddie Fox, and Simon Russell Beale join D’Arcy and Cooke as primary cast members.

In today’s House of the Dragon Season 2 character posters, D’Arcy’s Rhaenyra Targaryen looks as if she’s ready to pounce and tear the kingdom apart to exact her revenge. While flames flicker across her eyes, you can almost feel the rage emanating from the art. Meanwhile, Cooke’s Alicent looks guilty and fearful as she contemplates Rhaenyra’s oncoming wrath. Both women are beyond dangerous, and it’ll take more than dragons to end their dispute.
