“House” star Hugh Laurie set to play key villain in MGM’s Robocop redo

Can you see Hugh Laurie as a power-hungry corporate villain?

Word from the trades late today claims that Laurie (seen right), best known for his role on “House,” is in talks to play the primary villain in MGM’s ROBOCOP remake. As you know, Joel Kinnaman will don the steel, with Gary Oldman and Sam Jackson lending some solid support.

In specific, Jackson is set to play Pat Novak, a charismatic TV mogul and a powerful force in the Robocop world.

Oldman will play Robocop’s scientist-creator.

And now we know Laurie will play the evil and ultra-rich CEO of Omnicorp, the company that makes Robocop.

Joel Kinnaman stars as the titular crime fighter, a decorated Detroit police officer who undergoes a drastic transformation to become RoboCop after he’s brutally murdered while on duty.

Sounds like we’ll have some Laurie/Oldman scenes in addition to Laurie’s antagonistic ones toward Kinnaman. Jose Padilha is directing the flick, with production slated to commence sometime this summer.

Alright, so what do you say? Is Laurie wise to take on such an epic endeavor? Will he succeed? Personally speaking, I think he’s a tremendous actor and this could boost a whole new film career. Perhaps that’s the plan.
