How I Met Your Mother spinoff casts Kim Cattrall as the show’s narrator

How I Met Your Mother spinoff, How I Met Your Father, Kim Cattrall

Sex in the City actress Kim Cattrall is joining the cast of Hulu’s How I Met Your Mother spinoff, How I Met Your Father. Cattrall will step into a recurring role that finds her playing the future version of Hilary Duff’s character Sophie, who is telling her son the story of how she met his father. This setup will sound familiar to fans of the original series as it was the role Josh Radnor’s Ted Mosby played, with Bob Saget voicing the future version of Josh.

Per Deadline‘s description, Sophie’s story will transport audiences back to the year 2021 where she and her close-knit group of friends— Jesse (Chris Lowell), Valentina (Francia Raisa), Charlie (Tom Ainsley), Ellen (Tien Tran), and Sid (Suraj Sharma)— are figuring out who they are, what they want out of life, and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options.

Famously known for playing the free-spirited Samantha Jones in HBO’s Sex in the City, Cattrall has been featured in several TV series throughout the years, including Producing Parker, Sensitive Skin, Modus, Tell Me a Story, and Filthy Rich. She’s currently filming About My Father for director Laura Terruso.
