Today, Rob Friedman, co-chairman of Lionsgate’s Motion Picture Group, dropped a bit of news regarding the Stuart Beattie directed I, FRANKENSTEIN. It looks like Lionsgate plans on post-converting the film for a 3-D release on September 13. Because you know… that’s what everyone was hoping they would do.

According to THR, during an analyst call Tuesday, Friedman stated:

We’re selective. We do it where we think it’s appropriate for the creative, as well as for the consumer enjoyment.

Post-conversion 3-D almost always blows, so it’s really interesting that Lionsgate opted to go this route for the film. It wouldn’t surprise me if the huge success of TEXAS CHAINSAW 3D played a major role in this decision. At any rate, expect to see Aaron Eckhart who stars alongside Yvonne Strahovski, Bill Nighy and Socratis Otto all in three dimensions. I, FRANKENSTEIN, written and directed by Stuart Beattie, is based on the graphic novel by Kevin Grevioux who is also the co-creator of the UNDERWORLD franchise. Lionsgate will distribute the film in the U.S. with Lakeshore doing all the international sales.
