I Know What You Did Last Summer to return as a Young Adult TV series

Amazon, I Know What You Did Last Summer, series, Sara Goodman

If you've been shouting what are you waiting for with regard to there being a reimagining of the classic horror film I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER, you can finally give your lungs a rest because it's finally happening. Amazon Studios announced today that it's given a series order to I Know What You Did Last Summer, a modern take on the hit 1997 slasher film.

Written by Sara Goodman (Preacher) and based on the 1973 novel by Lois Duncan, the series follows the same plot as its film adaptation – in a town full of secrets, a group of teenagers is stalked by a mysterious killer a year after a fatal accident on their graduation night. (via Deadline)

“The best horror franchises always have another scare coming, and this I Know What You Did Last Summer series from Sara Goodman is a perfectly twisted update to the iconic slasher movie,” said Albert Cheng, COO, and CO-Head of Television, Amazon Studios. “Any way you slice it, our global Prime Video customers will love this modern take on the fan-favorite film.”

I Know What You Did Last Summer, produced by Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures TV, had been in development for a number of years. At the start, Original Film’s Neal H. Moritz, who produced the 1997 movie for Columbia Pictures, had been at the forefront of the project, which had gone through multiple iterations before a worthwhile interpretation of the material had taken shape. In fact, it was only last year when James Wan's Atomic Monster climbed aboard the series and offered to lend a hook. I mean hand. Yeah, hand. That's the ticket.

“We are thrilled to have I Know What You Did Last Summer with our incredible partners at Amazon Studios,” said Jason Clodfelter, Co-President, Sony Pictures TV Studios. “Neal Moritz and Original Film’s development consistently fires on all cylinders and that is proven once again with Sara Goodman’s contemporary and pulsating character weaving suspense thriller.”

With horror properties like Scream, Urban Legend, and I Know What You Did Last Summer all being rebooted in one way or another, what's next? Another film in the Final Destination series? A reboot of The Faculty? More Disturbing Behavior? I suppose it's anyone's guess at this stage of the game, though I've got to say, another take on The Faculty sounds like a mighty fine idea.
