In the latest piece of news in a day that already had a major piece of Indiana Jones 5 casting, it looks like we’re getting closer to officially confirming what era the movie is set in. With Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull having taken place in 1957, would could reasonably assume that as that was thirteen years ago, the new one would be set in 1970. Indeed, that seems to be exactly the case given the latest photos from the set, which show co-star Phoebe Waller-Bridge wearing a groovy ensemble that includes a set of bell-bottoms. If bell bottoms don’t say 1970, I don’t know what does!

The photos came courtesy of the Twitter feed @Indy5news, which has done a tremendous job keeping current with every step of the production. Of course, the 1970 setting is mere guesswork based on the images. Bell bottoms were a thing for quite a while actually, so the movie could theoretically be set earlier in the sixties or later in the seventies.
The photos also gave us our first look at Boyd Holbrook, with him seeming to sport a proper government style moustache fitting the era. Is he a G-Man?

Hopefully, James Mangold’s highly anticipated fifth Indiana Jones movie will be the worthy finale (?) to the series we’re all hoping for. Recently, I rewatched the entire series and had a ball. Heck, I even found Kingdom of the Crystal Skull watchable, albeit nowhere near as good as the rest of the series of course. While I’m bummed Steven Spielberg is sitting this one out, James Mangold will no doubt be a good substitute. After all, he’s made some pretty great movies in his own right, and his recent Ford V Ferrari which was a legit epic, so if he could bring that style to an Indiana Jones movie, well then, we’re in for something truly special.
The fifth Indiana Jones film is set to hit theaters July 29, 2022.
