It’s a common joke at concerts that artists only want to play the new stuff. But when that artist is John Williams, that’s sworth admission price alone. Legendary composer John Williams shared a piece of music from his upcoming score for Indiana Jones 5 at a recent concert at the Hollywood Bowl. Numerous videos were uploaded online; one can be viewed at the end of the article.
The piece of music is titled “Helena’s Theme”, named after the character of Helena, played by Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag). Williams said of the character, “She’s an adventurous and she’s also a femme fatale…She has kind of lyrical music like an old movie star.” He insinuated that the presentation was six months too early.
John Williams, who is 90 years old, previously suggested he would retire after Indiana Jones 5, saying, “At the moment I’m working on ‘Indiana Jones 5,’ which Harrison Ford — who’s quite a bit younger than I am — I think has announced will be his last film. So, I thought: If Harrison can do it, then perhaps I can, also.”
But what we’ve come to learn is that when John Williams says he’s retiring, he’s actually just moving on from film work, despite an interest in scoring a James Bond movie. John Williams can next be heard on the big screen for–you guessed it–Steven Spielberg’s semi-autobiographical The Fabelmans.

John Williams earned Academy Award nominations for the first original Indiana Jones trilogy. He was passed over for Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. One wonders if he will be acknowledged yet again for Indy 5.
