Inside the Tempe

We got a heads up on an entertaining interview with Tempe Entertainment‘s big man on campus J.R. Bookwalter over at The Keyhole, and it was just so damn funny, I thought I had to share.

He’s the writer, director, producer, editor of such flicks as THE DEAD NEXT DOOR, OZONE and POLYMORPH- all flicks that relish in gore, camp and fun (my kind of flicks!).

He talks about everything from ripping off ideas of big budget movies and producing them with their own twists on the tale, to what it’s like being in the ‘indie’ film scene since Tempe’s beginning back in ’85. A really great read if you’re interested about what it takes just to survive in the film industry from someone who’s done it.

Did I mention it’s hella funny? Here’s a snipit of what he had to say about working with William Shatner on the set of GROOM LAKE (yes, that William Shatner):

I remember during pre-production, Shatner would have my co-producer Chuck Williams and I over to watch Monday Night Football on his huge projection television. One night, right toward the end of the game, the projector went on the fritz…we could still hear the audio, but there was no picture. Shatner was in a panic! Being a bit of a tech-head, I took a gander at his home theatre system, which was quite elaborate. So here I am, crouched on one knee trying desperately to get the picture back, with Shatner leaning over me. All I could think of was how Scotty must have felt on STAR TREK with Kirk breathing down his neck…I so badly wanted to turn around and say, in my best bad Scottish accent, “I’m givin’ it all I can, Captain!” (laughs)

Oh man, that’s some funny shit.

And thanks to Mat Kister for the heads up!
