I love Guillermo del Toro. This is one of the most creative and fascinating storytellers to come out in years. His work includes the brilliant PAN’S LABYRINTH, BLADE 2, THE DEVIL’S BACKBONE and of course, he seems to have a real love for HELLBOY. If that wasn’t enough, the man is also set to bring to life THE HOBBIT. This is a man who seems to have several, wonderfully creative visions that are yet to be realized.
Now first off, I love THE LORD OF THE RINGS films. I thought Peter Jackson did an impeccable job. Am I worried that THE HOBBIT will not work quite as well as it should? Not at all. I feel that Guillermo is one of the very few who could make it happen while still satisfying the fans. Now with that said, and the fact that the only mention of a lead actor for the role still consists of rumors, I decided that I needed to make my suggestion for the role. And this man is such an awesome guy, that it was fun to spring that on him. It was also fun to talk monsters and other Hellboy related topics. He is such a visionary director, and more importantly, he is one helluva nice guy. So go see what he has in store when HELLBOY II: THE GOLDEN ARMY opens this Friday at a theatre near you.
