Interview with the Vampire TV series: Bailey Bass is Claudia!

AMC has ordered an eight-part TV adaptation of the Anne Rice novel Interview with the Vampire (pick up a copy HERE), and now all three of the actors who will be playing the dysfunctional family of vampires at the heart of the story have been found. A couple months ago, we learned that Sam Reid (The Newsreader) will be playing Lestat de Lioncourt on the show and Jacob Anderson (Game of Thrones) will be playing Louis de Pointe du Lac. Now Variety has revealed that the child vampire Claudia will be played by Bailey Bass.

Bass has ten years of acting credits to her name, but is best known for playing a role we haven’t seen yet: in 2017, it was announced that she would be playing a character named Tsireya, a member of “the Metkayina clan of reef people”, in James Cameron’s long-awaited Avatar sequels. She is in her late teens, which makes her substantially older than the Claudia in Rice’s novel, who became a vampire when she was just five years old. Presumably Bass will be playing slightly younger than her actual age.

In Neil Jordan’s 1994 feature adaptation of Interview with the Vampire (watch that HERE), Claudia was played by Kirsten Dunst, who was ten at the time of filming.

Rice’s novel centers on

the vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac as he relates the story of his life to a reporter, in particular how he was turned into a vampire and then mentored by Lestat de Lioncourt.

The Interview with the Vampire mini-series is AMC’s first step in building a franchise based on Anne Rice’s The Vampire Chronicles series of novels. This endeavor is being overseen by Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul producer Mark Johnson. Rolin Jones, co-creator and showrunner on the first season of the HBO series Perry Mason, is the creator, showrunner, and writer of the Interview with the Vampire series. Jones and Johnson will executive produce the show alongside The Many Saints of Newark director Alan Taylor, who is directing the first two episodes of the mini-series. Anne Rice and her son Christopher Rice are also on board as executive producers.

Interview with the Vampire will air on AMC and AMC Plus sometime in 2022.
