Interviews: John Krasinski and cast talk about the intense third season of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan

Of all the Tom Clancy adaptations ever made, Harrison Ford’s Patriot Games remains the most popular. While Alec Baldwin originated the role of Jack Ryan in The Hunt for Red October, Ford’s portrayal has reigned as the most popular. After one sequel, Clear and Present Danger, Ford ceded the role, which was then taken over by Ben Affleck and Chris Pine in two failed big-screen reboots. Then, John Krasinski entered the shoes of the famed CIA analyst for the Prime Video series, now entering its third season.

Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan took the series back to the beginning, showing us the title character in his earliest days as he moved from being in a cubicle to out in the field. The first and second seasons were big hits with fans, while critics were not nearly as keen on the sophomore run as they were on the first. After a COVID-imposed delay, the series is back with the penultimate season three. Aiming to pump up the intensity, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan jumps right in with an intense premiere and never lets up for the entire season. It is possibly the best of the three seasons, and one tha fans won’t be disappointed with.

I had the chance to chat about the third season with the five principal cast members of the series. John Krasinski discussed the inspiration for this season, namely The Hunt for Red October, and the desire for the creative team to reward fans who have waited years for this new season. Wendell Pierce talked about coming back as James Greer and whether it was more fun working in the field or in the office. Michael Kelly, who plays Mike November, talked about the scripts and how good they were. Betty Gabriel discussed the challenge of coming into an established series as a new character, while Nina Hoss talked about the way she prepared to play a head of state. Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan premieres on December 21st on Prime Video.
