It is a typical thing for films to have to do reshoots here and there, but this is a rather interesting story in that regard. It seems that THE INVASION, starring Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig is undergoing a serious makeover. Apparently two-thirds of the original script has been rewritten and now the cast and crew are going through yet another series of reshoots.
If you remember back to late 2006, Warner Bros. asked THE INVASION director Oliver Hirschbiegel to reshoot some of the material, and when Hirschbiegel was unable to reshoot, the studio asked the Wachowski Bros. to lend their talents to the maligned film. But back then, the Wachowski’s were busy prepping the now up and coming SPEED RACER, so they got V FOR VENDETTA helmer James McTeigue to take their place. But now it appears those reshoots weren’t enough, and the report is that Warner Bros. feel as though they can make THE INVASION a much more commercial success than originally thought. So to hell with the dialogue, character development, and artsy scene work…we want explosions and crap!
The sci-fi thriller is thought to be a different take on the classic INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS (read Arrow’s review of the remake), and the release date at this point may be up in the air.
