Last week, Jared P. hipped all you guys to the news that several classic horror stories from the likes of Edgar Allan Poe, H.G. Wells, and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle were getting the remake treatment by director David DeCoteau. The main goal of these remakes? More gay! That’s right, Regent Studios and their sister cable channel Here! Networks signed up the director to remake 10 classic horror tales and 2 television series mostly to add gay themes. Maybe they should be called makeovers instead of remakes. Just a little joke.
Anyhoos, one of the classics being remade, is H.G. WELLS’ THE INVISIBLE MAN, only the new title has been slightly altered to H.G. WELLS’ THE INVISIBLE CHRONICLES. Fango scored a couple of first pics from the feature (above and below). The script was written by DeCoteau’s longtime collaborator Matthew Jason Walsh. Here’s how it goes:
Griffin is a brilliant college science student who tells his tale of horror to his psychologist, Dr. Kemp: Having perfected an invisibility serum, he tests it on himself and at first enjoys its voyeuristic possibilities. Then he discovers that the effects are permanent and begins to lose his mind, stalking enemies and friends alike on the deserted campus.
Hmm… sounds suspiciously similar to a young version of HOLLOW MAN. Maybe CHRONICLES can perfect where HOLLOW went wrong, ie: more voyeurism and outdoor action and less time in the confined quarters of some underground lab. Either way, there better be a scene of our Invisible Man checking out the college coeds’ locker room! Then again, if this is going the gay route, he may be checking out the men’s room. Oh well.
The cast is comprised of Trevor Duke (BIG BAD WOLF, above) as Griffin, Kyle Leatherberry, Bryan Lillis, Oskar Rodriguez, Chira Cassel, Dominick Monteleone, Chaz Woods and Jocelyn Gauthier (below with Duke). CHRONICLES will be getting a regional theatrical release this fall before airing on Here! Network.
