We’ve been faithfully covering the comings and goings of that wacky space-nazi movie IRON SKY from the very beginning; Timo Vuorensola’s project drew a lot of attention thanks to its odd premise and cool trailer, and it even gathered its budget via online crowd-source financing. Guess a lot of folks out there want to see Nazis in flying saucers, go figure…
Now the picture will look to the internet for help again, as it was announced today that Canadian distributor eOne is partnering with Tugg.com, the site where you can request screenings of specific movies for your home town. (Paramount utilized the site earlier this summer with THE LOVED ONES.) The plan is to unspool the flick in select cities next month.
“We’re thrilled to utilise Tugg’s platform for Iron Sky,” eOne Films US vp of theatrical marketing and distribution Dylan Wiley said. “The film’s tremendous online momentum made Tugg a well-suited partner for us. We’re inspired by the online fandom and excited to bring Iron Sky to US audiences.”
In the last moments of World War II, a secret Nazi space program evaded destruction by fleeing to the Dark Side of the Moon. During 70 years of utter secrecy, the Nazis construct a gigantic space fortress with a massive armada of flying saucers.
When American astronaut James Washington (Christopher Kirby) puts down his Lunar Lander a bit too close to the secret Nazi base, the Moon Führer (Udo Kier) decides the glorious moment of retaking the Earth has arrived sooner than expected. Washington claims the mission is just a publicity stunt for the President of the United States (Stephanie Paul), but what else could the man be but a scout for the imminent attack by Earth forces? The Fourth Reich must act!
Two Nazi officers, ruthless Klaus Adler (Götz Otto) and idealistic Renate Richter (Julia Dietze), travel to Earth to prepare the invasion. In the end when the Moon Nazi UFO armada darkens the skies, ready to strike at the unprepared Earth, every man, woman and nation alike, must re-evaluate their priorities.
IRON SKY is directed by Timo Vuorensola, written by Vuorensola and Michael Kalesniko based on the original story by Johanna Sinisalo, and starring acclaimed actors Christopher Kirby, Julia Dietze, Götz Otto, Peta Sergeant, Udo Kier and Stephanie Paul.
