As if MULHOLLAND DRIVE didn’t damage your brain enough!
While nothing’s at all official, a quasi-rumor hit Cinematical over the weekend (via NBC Miami) that asserted David Lynch may be planning a follow up film to his universally loved 2001 mind-bender. Of course, mere rumors hardly get a ton of play around here, but when said rumor comes from the lips of one the original film’s stars…like E.F. Hutton, we f*ckin’ listen!
So here we are, relaying a fascinating quote from MULHOLLAND DRIVE star Laura Harring, who does all she can to keep with Lynch’s brain-teasing enigma:
“I’m very sure it’s coming, it’s being born… I cannot really tell you how I know.”
Bah, of course you can’t, Laura!
Despite omitting a source, you gotta admit, Harring does seem certain the project is coming down the pike. What strikes me about the quote is the particular language she uses…”it’s being born,” as if Lynch is some matriarch in heat ready to squeeze out a new “baby” every nine months. I wish it were true, but the only quality filmmakers I can think of who crank out a film a year are Clint Eastwood, Woody Allen and the Coen Brothers. Truth be told, after making his feature debut with ERASERHEAD in 1976, Lynch has averaged a new feature every three and half years (dude rocks an awful lot of shorts though).
But let’s get back to what you guys think. You give any credence to this story or do you need affirmation from Lynch himself? Are you in favor of a MULHOLLAND DRIVE sequel to begin with or would you rather see an undisputed masterpiece rest unfettered?
Pinch some blood underneath!
MULHOLLAND DRIVE hotties Naomi Watts and Laura Harring!
