Gaspar Noe and Bret Easton Ellis? How’s that potential cinematic match sit with ya?
Nothing has been substantiated a this point, but it seems the IRREVERSIBLE and ENTER THE VOID filmmaker (above) is circling a project Easton Ellis wrote called THE GOLDEN SUICIDES, which was adapted from a troubling Vanity Fair article.
As you may recall, the article by Nancy Jo Sales centered on the mysterious suicides of artists Jeremy Blake and Theresa Duncan, who took their own lives after supposedly being tormented by Scientologists. Gus Van Sant and Angelina had been tentatively attached to the project, but with too much time passed, that no longer seems to be the case.
Instead, Muse Productions is putting the call out to directors, and Noe’s name is now in the running. Of course, Gaspar has only made two features in the last decade, so you never know if he’ll be up to the task.
Still, the thought of Noe helming such a disturbing, real-life story is pretty damn intriguing. And although adapted by Easton Ellis and not originated, I definitely dug AMERICAN PSYCHO and RULES OF ATTRACTION well enough to keep an eye on THE GOLDEN SUICIDES. We’ll be sure to keep you posted.
