Is The Rock about to get faster and more furious?

Dwayne Johnson recently wrapped filming on his next action flick, FASTER, but apparently that’s not fast enough for him. The erstwhile Rock is in talks with Universal to co-star in FAST FIVE, the upcoming continuation of the FAST AND FURIOUS franchise with Vin Diesel and Paul Walker.

There are precious few details to go with at this point but no deal has been set and negotiations don’t look like they’ve even begun. What role Johnson would play in the film is unclear but if I had to guess, I’d think he’d be taking a villainous role in the film (I can’t imagine a protagonist role large enough to satisfy Johnson’s stardom). The initial press release announcing FAST FIVE said that Diesel and Walker would be on the run from a “legendary lawman” and I’m guessing that’s the role for Johnson.

Vin Diesel updated his Facebook page in March to say that director Justin Lin was scouting locations in Brazil for the upcoming saga. I’m guessing Universal wants this movie for summer 2011 so expect filming to begin this fall sometime. And this isn’t the news you want to hear but producer Neal Moritz recently said that while the film won’t be shot in 3D, there’s a good chance it will be released in 3D.
