The news keeps on coming for THE EXPENDABLES 2, last we heard they wanted to sign Donnie Yen and get in investors from China and do some shooting there. But that isn’t all, as apparently there are still names on their wishlist.
So what names are being thrown around? Well MovieHole got this little piece of info: ”Lautner. Lambert. Cage. Slater… big list, man. Most offers yet to go out.”
Yeah you didn’t read that wrong, top of the list is TWILIGHT’s wolf boy Taylor Lautner. Not really sure why, perhaps his latest film ABDUCTION gives him some action cred (not that I can see it, the trailer wasn’t promising). Are producers hoping to widen the appeal by placing someone whose main audience consists of tweens and teenage girls? Who knows, but I can’t see it happening.
How about the other names on the list? I would assume they are referring to Christopher Lambert, Nic Cage and Christian Slater. Lambert (HIGHLANDER, MORTAL KOMBAT) is looking to make a come back of sorts, he’ll be appearing alongside Nic Cage in GHOST RIDER: SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE. Both of those guys would make an awesome addition to the cast, if only as cameos or smaller roles. I could see that happening, and honestly, how badass would it be to see Nic Cage there? What about Christian Slater? One of my favourite guys from the early 90’s, a role in THE EXPENDABLES 2 would certainly be high profile for him. Wouldn’t be surprising if he was on Stallone’s radar, Slater is appearing in BULLET TO THE HEAD with the man.
Whatever the case, I hope they can land at least one of those names. We’ll be keeping our eyes open for any and all news on the film, which begins its Bulgaria shoot next month.
The current list of action awesome for THE EXPENDABLES 2: Jason Statham, John Travolta, Chuck Norris, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Mickey Rourke, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Terry Crews, and Bruce Willis
