IT Chapter Two director would love to remake The Howling

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

As most of you know by this point in the day, last night IT CHAPTER TWO cast and crew took to the stage at Comic-Con to talk all things Stephen King and Pennywise. But then in a fun bit, director Andy Muschietti was asked by a fan what other horror films he would like to remake next, and Muschietti told the crowd he'd like the chance to update Joe Dante's classic werewolf horror-comedy THE HOWLING!

Funny enough, Bill Hader replied to Muschietti's comment, saying what all of us were thinking:

If you remade The Howling, that would be rad.

I agree, Bill Hader! But that said, this is all just fun and games and there are, obviously, no real plans for Muschietti to take on an updated version of THE HOWLING. Which is too bad. But maybe this will spark something with the original film's producers. You never know!

Anyhow, the original werewolf creature feature followed:

a television journalist in Los Angeles named Karen White (Dee Wallace) who is traumatized in the course of aiding the police in their arrest of a serial murderer. Her doctor recommends that she attend an isolated psychiatric retreat led by Dr. George Waggner (Patrick Macnee). But while Karen is undergoing therapy, her colleague Chris (Dennis Dugan), investigates the bizarre circumstances surrounding her shock. When his work leads him to suspect the supernatural, he begins to fear for Karen's life.

GREMLINS director Joe Dante helmed THE HOWLING from a screenplay written by John Sayles (ALLIGATOR, PIRANHA) and Terence H. Winkless based on the book by Gary Brandner. Michael Finnell and Jack Conrad produced, and the movie starred Dee Wallace, Patrick Macnee, Dennis Dugan, Christopher Stone, and Belinda Balaski. Embassy Pictures unleashed the horror-comedy into a theater near your parents back on April 10, 1981.
