The only familiarity I have with the ATTACK ON TITAN property comes from the clips I saw a few years ago when the live action Japanese adaptations of the manga series (which has also inspired an anime television show) were being released. What I saw in those clips certainly made an impression, though. It's not easy to forget the sight of giant, creepy looking people with no nipples or genitals making their way through scenes of action and destruction like kaiju.
Warner Bros. is now moving forward with a live action American adaptation of the ATTACK ON TITAN source material, and the director they've hired is someone who has experience bringing creepy things to the screen: IT and MAMA's Andy Muschietti.
Written and illustrated by Hajime Isayama, the ATTACK ON TITAN manga is set
in a world in which humanity lives in cities surrounded by enormous walls protecting themselves from gigantic humanoids that are referred to as titans.
Muschietti's sister Barbara Muschietti will be producing the Warner Bros. film with David Heyman and Masi Oka.
Warner Bros., through their subsidiary New Line Cinema, also released IT, which made over $700 million at the global box office, so it makes sense that they want to keep working with the Muschiettis after next September's release of IT: CHAPTER 2. It will be interesting to see how this film will be handling the titan creatures, and what they'll look like compared to the ones seen in the Japanese films and the anime.
