It’s official: Fast & Furious 8 is coming in April, 2017

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Seeing as how FURIOUS 7 has already grossed an obscene amount of money, it was only a matter of time before we received the official word on the next installment of the Fast & Furious franchise. Well that word as come as Vin Diesel spoke at CinemaCon in Las Vegas today and announced that the eighth film in the increasingly profitable franchise will arrive in theaters on April 14, 2017.

After a very heartfelt speech about FURIOUS 7, Diesel launched into the big announcement and promised the audience that "we're going to make the best movie you've ever seen." Diesel called the film FURIOUS 8 on stage but there is no official title at this time, I suspect we'll know more soon as that April 14, 2017 date is less than two years away. Time to get back to work!

There's also no word on who would step into the directors chair this time around; FURIOUS 7 director James Wan is rumoured to be the front-runner for AQUAMAN which would leave him little time to tackle FURIOUS 8. Of course Universal could always exercise a contract option on the filmmaker to come back, but we'll have to wait and see.

Should Wan be able, would you like to see him return or would you rather a fresh director take the gang on this new adventure?
