When Paul Rudd joined the cast of director Jason Reitman's GHOSTBUSTERS 2020 a couple months ago, it was said that he would be playing "a teacher" in the film. Speaking with Entertainment Tonight recently, producer Ivan Reitman (who happens to be the director's father… and was the director of GHOSTBUSTERS 1984 and GHOSTBUSTERS II) gave some more information about Rudd's character.

The elder Reitman says Rudd is playing

a seismologist who's come to this small town because they've been having mysterious earthquakes. He's also teaching summer school there… and he's extraordinarily funny."

Written by Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan, GHOSTBUSTERS 2020 is a sequel to Ivan Reitman's films and centers on

a family who moves back home to a small town. While there, they begin to learn more about who they are and the secrets of the town itself.

The reveal that Rudd's character is in the small town to investigate mysterious earthquakes is an intriguing detail to add to that plot description. What sort of supernatural force is causing these earthquakes?

The family in the story is played by Carrie Coon, Mckenna Grace, and Finn Wolfhard. Their co-stars include Celeste O'Connor and Logan Kim.

Also in the cast are Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, and Annie Potts, who will be reprising the roles they played in the original GHOSTBUSTERS. Everyone is hoping Bill Murray will appear in the film as well, but his involvement still hasn't been confirmed.

GHOSTBUSTERS 2020 is scheduled to reach theatres on July 10, 2020.
