Restored Jackass episodes return to Paramount+ ahead of the summer release of Jackass: Best and Last

Before the Jackass crew returns to theaters for one last ride with Jackass: Best and Last on June 26, early episodes of the show are making their way back to Paramount+ with some exciting perks. According to reports, Jackass seasons 1-3 will return to Paramount+ today in restored, original versions, at the request of Jackass mainstay Johnny Knoxville.

Knoxville on restoring the old episodes

“In the time since the release of Jackass 26 years ago,” Knoxville said in a statement, “the television episodes had been re-edited, re-sequenced, and re-scored to the point they were unrecognizable. I found this out the hard way last year when attempting to watch them. Eeek! But kudos to Paramount for giving us the $$ to restore the shows to how they initially aired in the first place.”

Finally, the restored episodes “reflect the original vision from when the groundbreaking franchise first launched 25 years ago.”

Knoxville on Jackass‘s emotional ending

Knoxville recently opened up (heh) about Jackass: Best and Last being the final film in the Jackass series, saying, “It actually got emotional,” as everything came to a close. “That really lands, this being the last film. And, I think it’s the first Jackass movie where I ever choked up… I mean, the last day of filming I cried, like, four times.”

Speaking to Rolling Stone in February, Knoxville revealed how Best and Last is the Jackass gang’s final rodeo, saying, “This will be the last one,” he said. “This is the natural place to end. So it’s going to be absolutely awful.” It’s been over 25 years since the series began, and with much of the cast now in their 50s, it may be a good time to bring it all to a close.

Recently, probably because I’ve been writing about the upcoming film, my YouTube algorithm has been feeding me old Jackass clips non-stop. Some of the shit Knoxville and his crew get up to throughout the franchise’s history is positively insane. I give that group all the credit in the world for having the courage (?) and fortitude to embrace the dangerous tasks ahead of them. You wouldn’t catch me performing 99.9% of the stunts they did, and I’m looking forward to witnessing their last hurrah when the new film hits theaters.
