Jake Gyllenhaal, Rene Russo & more join Dan Gilroy’s Netflix film

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Dan Gilroy's NIGHTCRAWLER blew me away upon its release and still remains one of my favourite films, so any form of NIGHTCRAWLER reunion is sure to excite me. Following ROMAN J. ISRAEL, ESQ., Dan Gilroy is currently in production on his next effort in Los Angeles, which will make its home at Netflix. We still don't know all that much about the new project, but the cast has been rounded out and it's quite the ensemble.

In addition to Jake Gyllenhaal and Rene Russo, Variety reports that the upcoming horror-thriller will also star John Malkovich (DEEPWATER HORIZON), Toni Collette (United States of Tara), Natalia Dyer (Stranger Things), Zawe Ashton (NOCTURNAL ANIMALS), Tom Sturridge (The Hollow Crown), and Daveed Diggs (Hamilton). What we know of the plot states that it will follow "big-money artists and mega-collectors who pay a high price when art collides with commerce." While speaking with Business Insider last year, Dan Gilroy teased that the film is "set in the world of contemporary art in Los Angeles," adding that it's "got a Robert Altman-like large ensemble cast. It's got a 'The Player' vibe to it. There's a large cast and we're moving around from person to person as we move through this world," Gilroy said of his movie. "The story is being told through these different characters." As for when we might get to see Dan Gilroy's latest, the director has previously teased that it would open on Halloween, which should "give you some indication what kind of movie it is." Spooky.
