Canadian director Denis Villeneuve recently landed the gig of directing the inimitable Hugh Jackman in a revenge movie called PRISONERS, but production cannot of course begin yet as Jackman is still hard at work on Tom Hooper’s LES MESERABLES. So what’s a guy to do? Direct another movie in the meantime, of course!
Which is why Villeneuve has now signed on to AN ENEMY, a story which “revolves around a dysfunctional history teacher who accidentally discovers his exact double on a rented DVD, seeks him out and ends up turning both of their lives upside down.” And not be deterred from working with a Hollywood star as soon as possible, Velleneuve has picked himself a project that currently has Jake Gyllenhaal in talks to play both the teacher and his double.
The roles have, of course, been described as “dark and edgy,” which could actually mean most anything these days as nearly everything is “dark and edgy.” Except for TO ROME WITH LOVE, as I doubt that it’s anything but “dark and edgy.”
