James Cameron’s Avatar sequels will be a family saga

James Cameron Avatar

Like it or not, James Cameron will remain involved with the world of Pandora for the foreseeable future as he will be bringing us not one, not two, not three, but four more sequels to AVATAR. Cameron has been vague as to what these sequels will be about, but he did spill one little detail to Variety while discussing Toruk – The First Flight, Cirque du Soleil's AVATAR inspired production.

The storyline in the sequels really follows Jake and Neytiri and their children, it’s more of a family saga about the struggle with the humans.

Looks like we'll have the pitter patter of a group of little Na’vi to look forward to in those AVATAR sequels. It will be interesting to see how much time will unfold during these sequels now that we know Jake and Neytiri's children will be involved. Will both of them be elders by the time AVATAR 5 rolls around and leave it to their children to take up the fight? Who knows, but the first AVATAR sequel is still on track for a Christmas 2018 debut, at least for the time being.

We haven’t moved that target yet, but we will if we need to. The important thing for me is not when the first one comes out but the cadence of the release pattern. I want them to be released as close together as possible. If it’s an annual appointment to show up at Christmas, I want to make sure that we’re able to fulfill on that promise.

Despite making well over two billion dollars worldwide, I don't know how many people have been desperately wanting four more AVATAR sequels. Although I wasn't overly impressed with the story, AVATAR's world and visuals provided enough bang for my buck to keep me happy, but I do hope that James Cameron has a few more tricks up his sleeves to make these sequels worthwhile.
