Following James Gunn's temporary firing from Disney, Warner Bros. wasted little time in scooping the filmmaker up and handing him the keys to The Suicide Squad. Although Gunn will soon be returning to Marvel to helm Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, that doesn't mean he's done with Warner Bros.' DC universe. DC Films president Walter Hamada got fans talking several days ago when he teased that Gunn has more DC projects planned with the studio. "Gunn is always welcome back, whatever he wants to do," Hamada said. "He really has a vision and he’s a great partner with us. Whenever he wants to come back, we’re ready for him,” said Hamada, who added, “He’ll be back. We have more stuff planned."
While speaking with THR, James Gunn confirmed that he does indeed have more DC projects in the works with Warner Bros., but naturally wouldn't elaborate on what they were.
Yes, but remember, we’re dealing with a lot of different things. There are a lot of different things happening at the same time. (Laughs.) You’ve got the Peacemaker show, obviously, and then there are other projects. So we’ll see what happens. We’re always talking about different things, too, so there’s a lot of dreaming going on and dreaming is one of the most fun parts of moviemaking. We’re dreaming about the different possibilities, and we’re trying to find the right dream that can actually weave itself into reality in the proper way.
As James Gunn mentioned, he has the Peacemaker TV series on the way, but as for what these other projects could be, I couldn't say. Given how successful The Suicide Squad has become already, it's not hard to imagine that Warner Bros. is already discussing a sequel. For his part, Gunn would love to write for Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) once again. "I’ve taken a lot of characters from the comic books who either have slightly different personalities or not as clearly defined personalities," Gunn said. "I’ve really shied away from the really popular characters because I like creating characters. I don’t generally like interpreting characters that are already fully actualized, but with Harley, that was a different thing. I really do love Paul Dini’s original vision, and I felt like I was able to become Harley while I was writing. And it’s a terrible, wonderful place to be."
