Bacon and Purefoy…squaring off on TV? Damn, we may actually have to tune into this one.

Last week came the news that Kevin Bacon had won the lead role in Fox’s untitled “cult” series from medium guru Kevin Williamson (SCREAM, “Vampire Diaries”). Dissatisfied, Fox has gone out and found Bacon a formidable foe in English actor James Purefoy (above). Peep the deets below!

According to Deadline, Purefoy will play Joe Carroll, a diabolical serial killer who uses technology to create a cult of serial killers and finds a retired FBI profiler (Bacon) in the middle of it. Word is Marcos Siega will direct the pilot episode of the untitled series, which was written by Williamson, who will also exec-produce.

Purefoy, who appears in a lot of period-dramas and medieval stories (RESIDENT EVIL, SOLOMON KANE, IRONCLAD and the like) can next be seen in Disney’s JOHN CARTER, which opens next month. As one of the most sought after actors during this year’s pilot season (along with Bacon), Purefoy had another 4 offers before taking this one. My guess is he liked the opportunity to work with the Bacon-ator in 15-episode seasons (if it gets picked up), as opposed to the standard 22.

Until we hear more, based on what you know, what should the untitled show be called? Spit some shells below!
