This past Sunday, August 13th, marked the thirtieth anniversary of one of the most divisive entries in the Friday the 13th franchise, 1993’s Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday (WATCH IT HERE – OWN IT HERE). To mark the occasion, Jason Goes to Hell director Adam Marcus took to social media to announce that an epic documentary on the film, Hearts of Darkness: The Making of the Final Friday, is almost finished!

Marcus said, “The picture is locked. Our soundtrack is just days away from completion. It will only have to go through Color Timing next week, Sound Mix the week after and then has to be seen by our legal team (Larry Zerner in Jason’s house!) and then we’re done! I will, at that time, include all of you in what we are working on for our Distribution and Film Festival & Convention schedule. You are, after all, the one’s that asked for and paid for this movie to happen.

I also want to let everyone know, our company, Skeleton Crew, took this documentary on as a labor of love. … we have a feature film that is jam-packed with amazing artists, fans, screenings, haters, lovers, secrets and NEVER-BEFORE-SEEN Behind-the-Scenes footage. We also have a Blu-Ray that not only has that feature film but 13 extras that explore WAAAAY more of the content you all want. The Blu-Ray is close to 4 HOURS of amazing stuff! It’s insane. So yes, all of this is real and wonderful. We are working our butts off to get this to you. And it’s coming just around the corner.

I promised at the beginning of this journey that I would not do this film if people just wanted another half-assed BTS movie. No way. If we were going to do this, it had to be excellent. And it had to be ALL-IN. Well, I feel we’ve done just that. And while the world shutting down, and the film industry shutting down (still in a huge strike out here folks) we have persevered and will deliver the best film we know how to.

Directed by Marcus from a screenplay by Dean Lorey and Jay Huguely (who also gets story credit with Marcus), Jason Goes to Hell has the following synopsis: After being blown away by a team of FBI agents, Jason Voorhees needs to find a way to overcome certain death. When his bloodied remains are sent to the morgue, his heart, still intact, is able to hypnotize a coroner and take over his body. After brutally dispatching a couple of FBI agents, he heads back to his favorite stomping grounds: Crystal Lake. Jason commences another teen massacre while a bounty hunter discovers the only way to kill him.

The film stars John D. LeMay, Kari Keegan, Steven Culp, Erin Gray, Rusty Schwimmer, Leslie Jordan, Richard Gant, Billy Green Bush, Kipp Marcus, Andrew Bloch, Adam Cranner, Allison Smith, Michelle Clunie, Michael B. Silver, Kathryn Atwood, and Julie Michaels, with Steven Williams as badass bounty hunter Creighton Duke and Kane Hodder playing Jason Voorhees for the third time.
