Jaws: new trailer promotes next month’s IMAX re-release

National Geographic and Amblin are celebrating the 50th anniversary of Steven Spielberg's Jaws with the documentary Jaws @ 50National Geographic and Amblin are celebrating the 50th anniversary of Steven Spielberg's Jaws with the documentary Jaws @ 50

Back in June, it was announced that Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment are bringing the Steven Spielberg classics Jaws and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial back to the big screen – with E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial coming to IMAX screens across the United States on August 12th and Jaws following on September 2nd. In addition to being on IMAX screens, Jaws will also be in RealD 3D. In anticipation of this re-release, a new trailer for Jaws has been cut together and can be seen in the embed above.

Based on a novel by Peter Benchley, Jaws has a screenplay credited to Benchley and Carl Gottlieb. The synopsis goes like this:

When a young woman is killed by a shark while skinny-dipping near the New England tourist town of Amity Island, police chief Martin Brody wants to close the beaches, but mayor Larry Vaughn overrules him, fearing that the loss of tourist revenue will cripple the town. Ichthyologist Matt Hooper and grizzled ship captain Quint offer to help Brody capture the killer beast, and the trio engage in an epic battle of man vs. nature.

Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw, Richard Dreyfuss, Lorraine Gary, and Murray Hamilton star.

It’s fun to see a new trailer for Jaws, although I have seen the movie so many times and am so familiar with the dialogue it was kind of jarring to hear lines being altered in that trailer.

What did you think of the new trailer? Will you be going to see Jaws on an IMAX screen, and what do you think of the film being converted to 3D? Share your thoughts on this re-release by leaving a comment below.

Quentin Tarantino recently said he thinks Jaws is the best movie ever made, an opinion he shares with many film fans all around the world.
