Early last week Jake hit you all with a juicy update on actor Jay Baruchel’s upcoming slasher flick. What did we learn? Well that the flick will be called PIG and that it’ll be ‘a 21st century reimagining of the slasher film with a lot of socio-racial commentary.’
Alright. So that doesn’t explain much, does it? Worry not ladies and gentlemen! AVClub had a chance to speak to Jay Baruchel about his upcoming flick SHE’S OUT OF MY LEAGUE and got the young filmmaker to spill some more details on PIG:
“….The first one, the one that we’re kind of working on right now, that hopefully I’ll finally get to direct in the next year or two, is kind of a re-imagining of a slasher film about a crazy white cop who chases four black kids throughout the ghetto on July 4. It’ll be subversive and controversial and polarizing, but that’s what’s best in horror, the movies that do that to people.”
Well that’s interesting to say the least. What do you guys think? You ready to watch some psycho cop go on a killing spree through the ghetto? Um… Yes! I get the feeling Baruchel knows what us genre fans look for in a decent slasher flick too… Why? Well because he’s one of us! In the interview Baruchel explains his love for all things horror and how he originially (and currently) just wanted to write and direct horror movies. Hell his ‘absolute hero’ is none other than the great David Cronenberg! Oh Jay… I never knew. Head right on over HERE to check out the entire interview.
In all seriousness what do you guys think? You down for Baruchel trying to jump from the world of crude comedy romance to our beloved genre? And are you digging what we’re hearing so far about PIG? Spit some bullets below and keep it here for more on PIG as we hear it!
