Jeremy Renner might captain Peter Berg’s Battleship?

JoBloJoBlo

Jeremy Renner has spent the better part of a year collecting much-deserved accolades for THE HURT LOCKER and pondering his next move. Could that move be a mega-budget summer blockbuster based on a board game?

According to a NY Times article looking at the Oscar nominees and their upcoming projects, Renner is “in talks with Universal and director Peter Berg about taking the lead role in BATTLESHIP.”

As you may recall, Berg is turning the classic game of random guesses and the insertion of plastic pegs into “a contemporary story of an international five-ship fleet engaged in a very dynamic, violent and intense battle.” Against water-based aliens, of course.

But regardless of whether Renner puts his movie military training to use on the high seas, he will reportedly co-star with Ewan McGregor in RAVEN, a fictionalized account of macabre author Edgar Allen Poe’s last days. Director James McTeigue (V FOR VENDETTA) previously described the project as Poe’s famous poem crossed with SEVEN.
