It’s been a while since we last heard about this sci-fi film from PRISONERS director Denis Villeneuve but we finally have some new news to share. THR has just announced that Jeremy Renner will be joining Amy Adams in STORY OF YOUR LIFE.
The film, which is being written by Eric Heisserer, is based on a short story by Hugo and Nebula award winning author Ted Chiang. The synopsis is intriguing and reminds me a bit of Jodie Foster's CONTACT for whatever reason.
The story is set in motion when alien crafts land around the world and an expert linguist is recruited by the military to determine whether they come in peace or are a threat. As she learns to communicate with the aliens, she begins experiencing vivid flashbacks that become the key to unlocking the greater mystery about the true purpose of their visit.
Renner will play a physics professor who is paired with Amy Adam’s linguist character to help communicate with the aliens. In the hands of any other director this might sound like a bad Roland Emmerich movie, but Denis Villeneuve has proven himself to me with both PRISONERS and ENEMY so I'm confident he'll bring that same magic to this film.
Villeneuve was most recently attached to the BLADE RUNNER sequel which will begin production in the summer of 2016 while STORY OF YOUR LIFE is supposed to commence shooting mid-June of this year. Looks like Mr. Villeneuve will be one busy guy.
