Author Petra Hammesfahr's 2007 psychological thriller novel The Sinner is set to serve as the basis of an anthology series on USA Network, and the network is teaming with Jessica Biel to help bring the show to the screen.

Biel and her producing partner Michelle Purple will, through their company Iron Ocean, serve as executive producers on the series, in which Biel will also star as

a young mother who, when overcome by an inexplicable fit of rage, commits a startling act of violence and to her horror has no idea why.

The event draws in an investigator who finds himself obsessed with uncovering the woman’s buried motive. Together they travel a harrowing journey into the depths of her psyche and the violent secrets hidden in her past.

Bill Pullman (pictured above) co-stars as the investigator.

Derek Simonds wrote the pilot episode, which has been directed by Antonio Campos. Simonds and Campos are also executive producers on the series alongside Biel, Purple, and Charlie Gogolak.

It hasn't been made clear how the network intends to turn Hammesfahr's story into an anthology. My assumption would be that the first season will be based on the book, then future seasons will simply carry its title while telling completely different stories. That may not be the case. We'll keep you updated as more details on the anthology plans are revealed.
