Jim Jarmusch plots new zombie movie with Bill Murray, Selena Gomez, and more

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Independent filmmaker and glorious head of hair Jim Jarmusch is planning a return to the cinematic land of the undead with THE DEAD DON'T DIE, an upcoming zombie comedy that is now set to star Bill Murray (ZOMBIELAND, GHOSTBUSTERS), Selena Gomez (SPRING BREAKERS, HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA), Adam Driver (STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI, TV's GIRLS), and Chloe Sevigny (BOYS DON'T CRY, TV's BIG LOVE), Tilda Swinton (DOCTOR STRANGE, SNOWPIERCER), and Steve Buscemi (RESERVOIR DOGS, TV's BOARDWALK EMPIRE).

Unlike his hilarious role in Ruben Fleischer's ZOMBIELAND, Murray will not perform as a member of the undead for Jarmusch's upcoming film, but will instead portray a police officer alongside his partners played by Driver and Sevigny. Oddly enough, the project has yet to be officially announced by Jarmusch, though Murray did tell Philly.com back in March that he's "got a good job coming up. Brace yourself: It’s a zombie movie." He then added that “Jim Jarmusch has written a zombie script that’s so hilarious and it has a cast of great actors … it shoots over the summer. But no, I will not play a zombie.”

As I'd previously mentioned, this will not be Jarmusch's first foray into making a film about the undead. In 2013, the BROKEN FLOWERS and STRANGER THAN PARADISE director released ONLY LOVERS LEFT ALIVE starring Tilda Swinton, Tom Hiddleston, Mia Wasikowska, Anton Yelchin, Jeffrey Wright, Slimane Dazi, and John Hurt. The fantasy comedy drama centered on a depressed musician who reunites with his lover. Though their romance, which has already endured several centuries, is disrupted by the arrival of her uncontrollable younger sister.

Details concerning THE DEAD DON'T DIE are scarce at the moment, though we'll be sure to bring you any news related to the project as it's revealed. In the meantime, do you have a favorite Jarmusch film? If so, let us know what it is in the comments section below, and while you're at it, tell us if you're looking forward to this mysterious zombie-related project.
