J.K. Simmons joins the cast of Kong: Skull Island

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Movie fans have known how awesome J.K. Simmons is even before he was cast as J. Jonah Jameson in Sam Raimi’s SPIDER-MAN trilogy. Roles on HBO’s OZ and NBC’s LAW & ORDER through films like I LOVE YOU MAN and JUNO, Simmons has been a character actor of high caliber. It is awesome that he is being touted for all sorts of awards for his performance in this year’s WHIPLASH, but at the very least it is getting his name out there for more roles.

One role that could be due to the buzz around WHIPLASH is the upcoming KONG: SKULL ISLAND which Simmons has now been attached to. Deadline doesn’t report which role Simmons is being linked to but it could be anything from the film director that heads the expedition to the mysterious island, the camera operator, the duplicitous ship’s captain, or any number of roles either existing or brand new for the reboot.

I am still banking on Legendary’s movie will be setting up a potential crossover with GODZILLA, especially with the shared talents of screenwriter Max Borenstein. Tom Hiddleston was a good start as the hero, but J.K. Simmons just made my interest in this movie go up.

KONG: SKULL ISLAND, under the direction of Jordan Vogt-Roberts, hits theaters on March 10, 2017.
