Oliver Stone sets the tone for his Snowden biopic with this teaser trailer

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

The leaking of thousands of classified NSA documents to the press changed the way we look at our government, and the man responsible is Edward Snowden. A film chronicling his events was only a matter of time, but who better than Oliver Stone to bring that story to the screen? While his recent output has been arguably tame, this teaser for SNOWDEN may remind you of the man who wasn't afraid to start some shit. Sounds great to me!

The picture will star Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the titular Edward Snowden, as well as Shailene Woodley, Tom Wilkinson, Melissa Leo, Nicolas Cage, Timothy Olyphant, Zachary Quinto, and Rhys Ifans. The movie will evidently be based on the books "The Snowden Files: The Inside Story of the World's Most Wanted Man" by Luke Harding and "Time of the Octopus" by Anatoly Kucherena. We all pretty much know the facts by now, so I'm interested in what Oliver Stone will bring to the film, whether it be humanity to Levitt's character or to shine a light on shady government practices. Perhaps both. At least JGL isn't wearing some creepy contacts…

SNOWDEN will open in theaters on December 25, 2015.
