Johannes Roberts’ Resident Evil: Donal Logue, Chad Rook, Lily Gao join cast

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Production is currently underway on the RESIDENT EVIL film franchise reboot that's coming our way from 47 METERS DOWN (watch it HERE) and THE STRANGERS: PREY AT NIGHT (watch that one HERE) director Johannes Roberts. Last month we learned that the film stars Kaya Scodelario, Hannah John-Kamen, Robbie Amell, Tom Hopper, Avan Jogia, and Neal McDonough, and now three more cast members have been announced.

Joining in on the zombie outbreak action are Donal Logue (BLADE, Gotham), Chad Rook (WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES, Siren), and Lily Gao (MY MOTHER'S KILLER BOYFRIEND, RABID).

Roberts' take on RESIDENT EVIL is a

brand-new adaptation with faithful ties to Capcom's classic survival horror games with the story taking place on a fateful night in Raccoon City in 1998 and with the cast in the roles of the iconic game characters.

A movie that's closer to the games than Paul W.S. Anderson's movies were is exactly what I want to see.

Roberts said,

With this movie, I really wanted to go back to the original first two games and re-create the terrifying visceral experience I had when I first played them whilst at the same time telling a grounded human story about a small dying American town that feels both relatable and relevant to today’s audiences."

Scodelario is playing Claire Redfield, with John-Kamen as Jill Valentine, Amell as Chris Redfield, Hopper as Albert Wesker, Jogia as Leon S. Kennedy, and McDonough as William Birkin. Logue is taking on the role of Chief Irons. Rook and Gao's characters haven't been confirmed, but a tweet from Rook indicates they're playing Richard Aiken and Ada Wong.

RESIDENT EVIL is being produced by Robert Kulzer of Constantin Film, James Harris of Tea Shop Productions, and Hartley Gorenstein. Constantin CEO Martin Moszkowicz serves as executive producer alongside Victor Hadida of Davis Film. Constantin's Alex Westmore and Colin Scully are overseeing the project.

The film will be released sometime in 2021.
