The master of horror returns with a new terrifying series titled John Carpenter’s Suburban Screams. That’s right — it features the preceding moniker of “John Carpenter’s…” which means the genre maestro out and out directed the show. And while many fans know how ambivalent Halloween director has been with showbiz, this project is unique whereas Carpenter says he directed the project remotely from his own couch. Peacock has now unveiled the creepy trailer for the series.

According to ComingSoon.net, the synopsis says, “The series explores the dark secrets and unspeakable evil that sometimes lurks beneath the surface of the sun-drenched streets, manicured lawns and friendly neighbors of suburbia. Each episode focuses on one true tale of terror, told by the real people who lived through it. Their firsthand accounts are brought to life through premium cinematic scene work, news clips, home photos, and archival footage, combining the visual language of horror films with the tools and techniques of documentaries, creating a uniquely frightening experience for viewers.”

Surprisingly a lot of the details are scarce, but the trailer definitely draws you in like it’s a traditional horror show until it’s revealed these stories are based on real events and footage of interviews from the survivors show up in a documentary style. Andrew Buzzeo is listed in the cast portraying Rick McClain. Annette Holland is also listed as playing Nina Flam and William O’Donnell is listed as the actor portraying David Cadogan.

Carpenter recently spoke to an audience at a Q&A for the Texas Frightmare Convention earlier this summer where he teased his experience of directing this project remotely while it filmed in Prague. “I just finished directing, remotely, a TV series called Suburban Screams – John Carpenter’s Suburban Screams. It was filmed in Prague, and I sat on my couch and directed it. It was awesome.“ His secretive nature also teased a possible sequel to his much beloved hit, The Thing.  During the panel, a fan would ask Carpenter about the long-popular theory if Keith David’s character, Childs, is indeed the Thing at the end of the film. Carpenter did his best to dodge the answer, only to let it slip that the answer might come in a sequel. That’s when Carpenter would explain, “I have been sworn to secrecy, okay, because there may be, I don’t know if there will be, there may be a Thing 2.”
