This was a solid year at the movies for yours truly. I kinda of feel lucky in the sense that I got to clock ALL KINDS of great shit via the two Film Festivals I attended this year (Fantastic Fest and Sitges) that I wouldn’t have tapped this early otherwise. So here’s what 2010 was all about for me!

For starters; picking up where 2009 left off; 3D was everywhere in 2010. Not just within our genre; EVERYWHERE. To the point that when a film was released ONLY in 2D; I’d be like WTF! Yup, Hollywood has found a new cash-cow in 3D; an efficient way to gap the lo$$ that piracy is costing them and an ideal scapegaot to boost up ticket costs. I expect the 3D rage to keep on strong in 2011.

The good news was; American horror picked up its balls and swung them proudly in 2010. Offerings like DEVIL, FROZEN, A HORRIBLE WAY TO DIE, BLACK SWAN, MOTHER’S DAY and INSIDIOUS were mucho appreciated by this twat. I was worried for US horror for a while there, but 2010 showed me that there is still hope. Foreign wise; Spanish genre cinema did what French genre cinema was doing for a while i.e. owning all with gems like KIDNAPPED, REC 2, BURIED and JULIA’S EYES. Them flicks re-enforced Spain as a horror force to be reckoned with. Not wanting to be left out Korea also kicked ass hardcore with I SAW THE DEVIL and BEDEVILLED ringing our necks. Finally, Australia put out at least two solid ditties on their end: THE LOVED ONES and RED HILL. And I was a better genre fan for them.

Studio wise; well it was hit and miss as per usual. For every badass PIRANHA 3D we got, we were polluted with a NIGHTMARE ON  ELM STREET or a PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 2: MINDGAMES OF A POOL CLEANING MACHINE. And am I gonna address the latest installement in the bloated and over-written TWILIGHT franchise? Well that’s nough said! Not worth the further keyboard taps.

Now it should be stabbed that there were some films that I saw in 2010 that I didn’t and will not review. That’s my new thing BTW. At the end of every year I catch up on the genre films I missed. If they will make my TOP 10, I write a review for them; if not, I don’t bother. So nope, HARRY BROWN (3 on 4), THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO (3 ON 4), THE GIRL THAT PLAYED WITH FIRE (2 on 4), ALTITUDE (1/5 on 4), THE DISAPPEARANCE OF ALICE CREED (3 on 4) and THE KILLER INSIDE ME (3 on 4) didn’t make my TOP 10 cut.

What did? Scroll down, click the link and find out! I gotta be honest; I had a hard time bringing my favorites down to just 10 entries; I changed my mind constantly; it took me a while to nail, but I got it down now. Check it!
